Network Rail: Authorised Undertaker for the Borders Railway Project
Network Rail runs, maintains and develops Britain’s railways. We have been commissioned by Transport Scotland, the national transport agency for Scotland, to build and develop the Borders Railway. This is an exciting project and follows the recent successful completion, on time and on budget, of the Airdrie-Bathgate Line. The transfer of Authorised Undertaker powers from Transport Scotland and the local authorities to Network Rail took place on 6 November 2012, which will allow us to start construction of the railway.
Network Rail will continue to work closely with the City of Edinburgh Council, Midlothian Council and Scottish Borders Council, as well as Transport Scotland, to deliver the project.
