Great Tapestry of Scotland will 'regenerate' new home Galashiels

Planning permission has been granted to create a new home for the Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels.

Work on the £6.7m project will begin next year and it is due to open in spring 2020.

It is expected to attract more than 50,000 people to Galashiels each year and create 16 jobs.

Under the plans the former Post Office will be converted and the empty Poundstretcher demolished.

The 143m long tapestry was stitched by more than 1,000 volunteers and details the history of Scotland.
