Grapevine Raises a Glass
The Grapevine Galashiels celebrated its first birthday in style this week with a series of special events including a gin and beer tasting event in partnership with Born in the Borders and the new Border Liliard Gin. Various delicious gin and ale with special ale and gin cocktails from the Borders were enjoyed by the happy patrons who attended the event.
Will Haegland and Trond Dalby, co-ownersof the country Hotel in Selkirk and the Grapevine in Galashiels have always believed that to be successful in business you need to work in partnership with local suppliers and the community and Will is currently chair of the Selkirk Bids Programme. Since opening the Grapevine in Galashiels the team have played an active role in many of the town events including the celebration of the Flying Scotsman visit and Will was also one of the organizers of the new Winter Festival which was held in a series of Borders Towns last December including Galashiels and Selkirk. The Grapevine have also worked with other businesses in Galashiels such as the Pavillion Cinema, Enhance Beauty Salon as well as ensuring as much local food and drink is used in the restaurant such as Born in the Borders Beer.
Will Haegeland said: "The principal reason that we opened the Grapevine in Galashiels was that we wanted to fully embrace the opportunities from the Borders Railway and ensure that locals and visitors could enjoy a meal and a drink when they visited Galashiels in a relaxed ambiance. We have been delighted that we have had such a great support in our first year from locals and visitors alike welcoming people from all over the world. We are also delighted to support the wonderful suppliers in the local area such as John Henderson from Born in the Borders and thank him for supporting our first birthday celebrations."
VisitScotland Regional Director Doug Wilson said: Happy Birthday to the Grapevine on what has been a successful year for the restaurant. The opening of the restaurant capitalised on the opportunities presented by the Borders Railway and Will and the team continue to work in partnership with other local businesses to showcase the great produce and services on offer in the Scottish Borders. Collaboration like this has helped provide a huge boost to the local area and help attract visitors to the region."
