Borders Railway works due to start at Bowlands Bridge

As part of the on-going works to build the new Borders Railway, the B710 Clovenfords Road will be temporarily closed on 7 April for approximately 5 months to allow for construction of a the new bridge at Bowlands.  The previous structure was removed during an earlier closure in 2013.

During the closure, the team will also excavate and re-surface part of the existing carriageway.

As an alternative route, drivers can use the A72 from Clovenfords to Galashiels.  In addition, the C11 Ferniehurst Road, which is currently closed, will be re-opened in advance of the B710 closure.

Hugh Wark, project director, Network Rail, said:

“The work being undertaken at BowlandsBridge is strategically important to the project and a closure of the road is unavoidable.

“The project team understands how important the road is to the local community and we will endeavour to complete the works as quickly as possible to limit the inconvenience to local residents.”
