Back of the net for October school holiday fun

Youngsters from across Midlothian enjoyed a football-tastic October break from school by taking part in the Scottish FA’s October Holiday Programme.

The football programme forms part of a collaboration between the Borders Railway project and the SFA to help promote construction site and railway safety along the route as work gathers pace.

The October football camp saw 50 boys attend a tournament at Soccer City in Mayfield, while 90 primary seven boys from across Midlothian primaries also attended a football festival in Penicuik.

Mark Henderson, Community Safety Manager, Network Rail, said: “Our partnership with the SFA will allow us to support budding footballers in areas along the new line, as well as allow us to inform the next generation about safety along the route as construction makes headway and we move closer to an operational railway.”

The partnership between the Borders Railway project and the SFA started in July. The investment from the railway project will also support new and existing coaches with the goal of providing a better learning environment for players across the Scottish Borders and Midlothian.
