200 local businesses represented at Borders Railway 'meet the buyer' event
The main contractor for the Borders Railway, BAM received a fantastic response to its meet the buyer event on Wednesday 27th February, with over 200 local companies from across Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders in attendance.
The event, held at the National Mining Museum in Newtongrange, provided local contractors with the opportunity to learn more about the process involved in becoming a supplier to the project. They also had the chance to meet with the project team responsible for awarding the contracts.
Network Rail and BAM are committed to supporting local communities across Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders throughout construction and delivery of the Borders Railway project and this includes involving local suppliers where possible.
Gavin Gerrard, Senior Project Manager at BAM, said:
“We received an overwhelming response to this event from local businesses looking to get involved with the Borders Railway project. I hope that those who attended found the event helpful and felt encouraged to now apply to become a supplier for the Borders Railway. It is important to us, where possible, to include local companies in the procurement of suppliers for the project.”
Craig Bowman, Communications Manager at Network Rail, said:
“It is very encouraging to see so many local firms keen to be involved in the Borders Railway project. Work on the railway is moving at an ever increasing pace and ensuring we have the right suppliers in place to support BAM will be crucial to the success of the project.”
