The areas creative sector encompasses advertising, architecture, art and design, computer and video games, crafts, designer fashion, film and video, music, the performing arts, publishing, software and broadcasting.
Edinburgh also hosts a year-round programme of 11 festivals generating some £283m for the local economy, £313m for the Scottish economy and supporting almost 4,000 jobs. With the addition of a world-class film studios complex proposed as part of a £138m development in the Pentlands, Midlothian, the potential for creative industry start-ups, supply chain and support services companies establishing with the region is really high.
There are 2.9m jobs in the creative economy across the UK, equating to 1 in every 11 of all UK jobs, the creative sector is one of the fasting growing employment sectors in the Country. Outside of London and the South East of England, Scotland contributes one of the highest regional percentages to that total, with 6% of the total jobs in the sector.
