Galashiels

The bustling historic town of Galashiels lies in the Gala Water river valley, a mile upstream of its confluence with the River Tweed, in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
Connected to Edinburgh by the A7 road and now just a 50 minutes journey via the Borders Railway, the town has a diverse economy and population and is the dominant comparison goods shopping destination in the Scottish Borders region. A significant strategic centre, less than an hour by train from Edinburgh city Centre, Galashiels offers great potential for growth.
Galashiels town centre has commercial and retail outlets and is home to several public bodies, including Borders College and the Heriot-Watt University School of Textiles and Design, and retains close ties to the historic textile industry in the Scottish Borders.
Galashiels was also recently chosen as the new permanent home for the Great Tapestry of Scotland, a unique community arts project which will deliver a huge tourism and regeneration boost to the town. The £6 million project is due to open in 2020 and is predicted to attract 51,000 visitors a year, increasing visitor spending by some £2m annually, as well a host of other local benefits.
Galashiels is also the subject of an emerging Business Investment District (BID), an initiative which is being led by the community group Energise Galashiels , which will allow local businesses to have a positive impact on the future growth of the town.
